Punctal plugs have both pros and cons. The pros are that they are a safe method to retain tears on the ocular surface and have value in relieving symptoms when tear production is borderline or if the duration of applied tear substitutes needs to be prolonged. They are helpful as adjunctive treatment in the management of dry eye disease. With Plaquenil, however, the most commonly prescribed anti-malarial, this sort of damage occurs only in 1 out of 5,000 people who take the drug for five years or more. For this reason though, it is important that you see an ophthalmologist for an exam before starting to take an anti-malarial medication for your lupus. I've never taken Plaquenil, but many of our members do and it does seem to be quite successful in a lot of cases. We have a very useful thread here on Plaquenil with lots of advice on the eyesight question. There's also another Plaquenil thread as well which I hope will give you some more information. Best wishes,

  7. I get Plaquenil from international pharm & it's much cheaper. It works better than biologics that contributed to/sped up process leading to my cancer. I'm now "cancer-free" & refuse to go back on them. I might have to get vision checked & deal w/other mild side effects, but pain/swelling is gone on Plaquenil.

As far as I have read, side effects are less common with ramipril than they are with some other ACE inhibitors. When side effects do occur, some of the more frequent ones are a dry cough, abdominal pain, constipation, rash, light headiness, urticaria, angio edema and more. But most people receive only light side effects or nine at all. What is the correct way to discontinue use of plaquenil? Nov 12, 2009 Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. If you're gonna experiment, I went off it cold turkey as it didn't hurt to do it that way, but you better get back on before the summer or you could experience a flare-up.
