    Aug 31, 2003 I took plaquenil for five weeks. After about four weeks I developed hot flashes and my period stopped. I had always had regular periods up until then.   7. I've taken plaquenil off and on for about 8 years. I do best with a dose of 1 200mg tablet per day taken early. The 400 dose gives headaches, sleeplessness, and yes, some hot flashes. I do think the drug helps with the pain, but I don't see improvement on the dryness. Right now I'm run down due to stress.
