Chloroquine is the generic form of the brand-name prescription medicine Aralen, which is used to prevent and treat malaria — a mosquito-borne disease caused by a parasite — and to treat amebiasis, an infection of the intestines caused by a parasite. The researchers injected the bacterial endotoxin LPS, which initiates preterm labor, into the uteruses of pregnant animals. Three hours later, they injected chloroquine into the uteruses of some of the mice. While chloroquine did not prevent preterm labor in 100 percent of these mice. In addition, impaired uterine decidualization and dysregulation of the PR and HOXA10 protein levels was observed after autophagy inhibited by 3-methyladenine and chloroquine in in vivo artificial decidualization mouse model. In the last, LC3 and P62 were also observed in normal human proliferative, secretory, and decidua tissues.

LOW PLATELETS - After about 10 months, the Imuran was causing my white blood cells to drop, so I was taken off of it and I started Plaquenil. I had labwork done yesterday and my platelets were 332. I know everyone is different, but I just wanted to share what my scenario was. I haven't spoken with many other people whose platelets were affected by their lupus.

What is the correct way to discontinue use of plaquenil? Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. If you're gonna experiment, I went off it cold turkey as it didn't hurt to do it that way, but you better get back on before the summer or you could experience a flare-up.
